Jambalaya

Jambalaya is a dish which the main ingredients commonly include meat (the sausage couldn’t be missed), vegetables and rice. Seafood such as Crawfish and shrimp are also used in cooking this dish but less common. Let try the jambalaya recipe to enjoy its special flavor, which comes from the combination of different fresh and delicious ingredients.

long white rice

Andouille sausage (sliced)

ham steak (cubed)

medium shrimp (peeled and deveined)

olive oil

medium green bell pepper (finely chopped)

medium yellow onion (finely chopped)

2 stalks

celery (sliced)

garlic cloves (minced)

1 tablespoon

chili powder

1/4 teaspoon

hot pepper flakes

2 tablespoons

tomato sauce

1/3 teaspoon

turmeric powder

2 cups

chicken broth

1/2 teaspoon

salt

How to do

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat, add the sausage and ham and cook for 3 minutes until golden brown on all sides. Remove the cooked sausage and ham to a plate, set aside.

In the same skillet, add garlic to saute until fragrant, then add pepper, onion, celery, chili powder and hot pepper flakes. Cook the mixture for 5 minutes until the onions are soft and translucent, stir occasionally.

Add the tomato sauce, cooked sausage and ham into the skillet, stir until the mixture is well combined. Then add the rice, turmeric powder, chicken broth and ½ teaspoon salt (or more if desired) into the skillet, stir well. Cook until the liquid comes to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover the skillet with a tight fitting lid and simmer the mixture about 20 minutes.

Add the shrimp to the skillet, stir well. Continue covering the skillet and cook for 3 – 5 minutes more.

Remove the skillet from heat. Gently stir the jambalaya to serve warm.
